This guide will walk you through connecting your domain from a GoDaddy account to your WebDirect site.
Step 1 - Add your domain to WebDirect
To connect your domain to your website, you need to add the specific domain name to your WebDirect account. Your domain configuration can be managed on the ‘Domains’ page in the ‘Settings’ tab of WebDirect. In case you need help logging in to your WebDirect account, please refer to this article.
Once you are on the ‘Domains’ page in WebDirect, navigate to the ‘More domains’ section. Enter your domain www.yourdomain.com (be sure to include ‘www’) and click on ‘Add’. Your domain should now be listed above. Save your changes by clicking on ‘Save’ in the lower right side of the page.
Step 2 - Set up your 301 redirects.
If you recently purchased your domain please proceed to Step 3 directly.
If you have an existing website under your personalised domain please follow these instructions and then proceed to step 3.
Step 3 - Log in to your Strato account
Visit www.strato.com and log in via the ‘Login’ button at the top right side of the screen.
Clicking ‘Login’ will open a new page with your customer login information.
First, select the ‘Strato Customer Login’ option (marked with a number 1 in the picture). You will have the option to fill in your username or number and password in the two text boxes below (marked with a 2 and 3 in the screenshot).
After filling in your credentials, click the ‘Login’ button. You will then be forwarded to your Strato customer account.
Step 4 - Set up your A record
Once you are logged in, you will see the ‘Package Overview’. Be sure that ‘Package Overview’ is selected in the navigation menu on the left side. When this is selected, you will see your different products in the overview.
In one of the homepage packages, you will find the option ‘Manage domains’ (marked with a number 2 below).
After clicking ‘Manage domains’, you will be forwarded to the ‘domain management view’. There you will see a section called ‘Settings (domain)’.
In ‘Settings (domain)’ click on ‘unfolding’ to expand the ‘DNS settings’ tab.
When the ‘DNS settings’ view is expanded, you will see the following view with the option to click ‘manage’, to right side of the A record.
Click on ‘manage’, so you can change the A record information. The next page will allow you to change the A record from the standard record, to the BookingSuite record. Select ‘Own IP address’ in the domain management section.
After selecting ‘Own IP address’, you will see an additional text box in which you can enter the BookingSuite A record: 18.104.22.168.
After entering the record, click ‘Apply settings’ to save your changes.
After clicking ‘Apply settings’, your domain settings will be updated. Please note: Strato indicates that it may take up to 24 hours until your new settings are active.
Step 5 – Setting your primary domain
The last step is to set your domain name as primary. If you have multiple domains added to your account, you will need to set only one of your domain names as primary. Your other domains will then be automatically redirected to your primary domain. Visitors who access your website will then always see this primary domain in their browser bar.
In order to set your primary domain, navigate to the ‘Domains’ in the WebDirect ‘Settings’ tab. In the ‘More domains’ section, hover over the domain you would like to set as primary, then click on the ‘Make primary domain’ button. Be sure you save your changes by clicking on the ‘Save’ button in the lower right side of the page.
Hint: You can only set your domain as primary if you made the necessary changes with your domain provider. If this has not been done, you will receive the error message: ‘This domain is not ready to be set as your primary. DNS records could take up to 4 hours to update – please try again later’.
