This guide will walk you through connecting your domain from a Gandi.net account to your WebDirect site.
Step 1 - Add your domain to WebDirect
To connect your domain to your website, you need to add the specific domain name to your WebDirect account. Your domain configuration can be managed on the ‘Domains’ page in the ‘Settings’ tab of WebDirect. In case you need help logging in to your WebDirect account, please refer to this article.
Once you are on the ‘Domains’ page in WebDirect. Click on "+Add domain"
Enter your domain www.yourdomain.com (be sure to include ‘www’) and click on ‘Add’. Save your changes by clicking on ‘Save’ in the lower right side of the page.
Step 2 - Set up your 301 redirects.
If you recently purchased your domain please proceed to Step 3 directly.
If you have an existing website under your personalised domain please follow these instructions and then proceed to step 3.
Step 3 - Log into your Gandi.net account
Visit gandi.net and log in via the ‘Log in’ button at the top right side of the screen.
This will open a menu with another ‘Log in’ section, where you can add your username and password.
Step 4 - Set up your CNAME record
Once you are logged in, you will see the ‘Dashboard’ view.
Click on the ‘Domains’ button to the left side of the page, then click on the domain you wish to edit.
You will then be redirected to a new dashboard. Click on ‘DNS Records’ at the left side of the page.
In some cases, the domain does not have pre-set records defined. In this case, you will need to manually add them. To do so, click ‘Add’ at the top right side of the page.
Next, choose the CNAME record you would like to add from the drop-down menu.
Be sure you go back to the list of DNS records. To change your CNAME, look for ‘CNAME’, then choose the one with ‘www’ in the ‘Name’ row. Click the ‘Edit’ button to the right side (indicated by a small pencil).
Once you click ‘Edit’, you will see a new screen where you can edit your CNAME record.
To add a CNAME record, add ‘www’ in the field titled ‘Name’. Next, add ‘suite-sites.booking.com.’ in the field called ‘IPv4 Address’.
Keep in mind that you need to add a dot at the end. To save, click on the ‘Create’ button.
Then, in the field titled ‘Hostname’, add suite-sites.booking.com. (Keep in mind that you have to add a dot at the end).
Once you have completed these steps, click ‘Update’.
Please double-check the ‘Name’ field: It has to be ‘www’.
Step 5 - Set up your A record
To change the A record, follow the same steps you followed to edit your CNAME record. Click on the pencil icon (the A record edit option).
The ‘Name’ of the A record should be ‘@’. Add the record ‘18.104.22.168’ in the ‘IPv4 Address’ field. Once you have completed these steps, click ‘Update’.
In some cases, the domain does not have preset records like the ‘A records’ defined. You will need to manually add them. To do so, click the ‘Add’ button at the top right side of the page.
Next, select ‘CNAME’ as record you would like to add from the drop-down menu.
If you choose to add an ‘A’ record, follow the steps below:
- Check that you are adding an actual ‘A’ record
- Add @ in the ‘Name’ field
- Add ‘22.214.171.124’ in the field titled ‘IPv4 Address’
- Click on ‘Create’
If you decide to add a ‘CNAME’ record, follow the steps below:
- Check that you are adding an actual ‘CNAME’ record
- Add www in the ‘Name’ field
- Add ‘suite-sites.booking.com.’ in the field titled ‘IPv4 Address’. Keep in mind that you have to add a dot at the end.
- Click on ‘Create’
Step 6 – Setting your primary domain
The last step is to set your domain name as primary. If you have multiple domains added to your account, you will need to set only one of your domain names as primary. Your other domains will then be automatically redirected to your primary domain. Visitors who access your website will then always see this primary domain in their browser bar.
In order to set your primary domain, please follow these steps.
NOTE: You can only set your domain as primary if you made the necessary changes with your domain provider. If this has not been done, you will receive the error message: ‘This domain is not ready to be set as your primary. DNS records could take up to 4 hours to update – please try again later’.
