This guide will walk you through connecting your domain from a GoDaddy account to your WebDirect site.
Step 1 - Add your domain to WebDirect
To connect your domain to your website, you need to add the specific domain name to your WebDirect account. Your domain configuration can be managed on the ‘Domains’ page in the ‘Settings’ tab of WebDirect. In case you need help logging into your WebDirect account, please refer to this article.
Once you are on the ‘Domains’ page in WebDirect. Click on "+Add domain"
Enter your domain www.yourdomain.com (be sure to include ‘www’) and click on ‘Add’. Save your changes by clicking on ‘Save’ in the lower right side of the page.
Step 2 - Set up your 301 redirects.
If you recently purchased your domain please proceed to Step 3 directly.
If you have an existing website under your personalised domain please follow these instructions and then proceed to step 3.
Step 3 - Log in to your Bigrock account
Visit bigrock.com and log in via the ‘Login/SignUp’ button at the top right side of the screen.
In the next window, enter your username and password and click ‘Login’.
Step 4 - Set up your CNAME record
Once you are logged in, you should see the list of your domains. Click on the domain under the ‘Product’ column that says ‘Domain Registration’.
On the next screen, you will see all the options to manage your domain. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, until you see the ‘DNS Management’ section.
In the ‘DNS Management’ section, select the ‘Manage DNS’ option.
You will see a new window with DNS settings, starting A records. If you see a record which has ‘www’ in the name in the A record section, you will need to delete it.
To delete it, click on the domain, and in the new page click on ‘Delete Record’.
In the pop-up window, click ‘OK’.
Next, go to the ‘CNAME Records’ section.
Then click on the ‘Add CNAME Record’ button.
On the next page, write ‘www’ in the ‘Host Name’ field, select the second option in the ‘Value’ field. Write ‘suite-sites.booking.com’, then click the ‘Add Record’ button.
Step 5 - Set up domain forwarding
Next, be sure that your naked domain (without ‘www.’) redirects to your main domain (www.yourdomain.com).
Close the window for DNS changes and go back to domain options.
Above the ‘DNS Management’ section, you will find the ‘Domain Forwarding’ section.
In this section click on ‘Manage Domain Forwarding’.
In case you see already a redirect from your naked domain (without the ‘www.’) in the ‘Sub-domain prefix’ column, delete it. Next click ‘Add new’.
A new line will appear, which you can configure by following the steps below:
- Leave the ‘Sub-domain’ field empty
- Write the domain with ‘www.’ in the Destination URL
Then click ‘Save’.
Step 6 – Setting your primary domain
The last step is to set your domain name as primary. If you have multiple domains added to your account, you will need to set only one of your domain names as primary. Your other domains will then be automatically redirected to your primary domain. Visitors who access your website will then always see this primary domain in their browser bar.
In order to set your primary domain, navigate to the ‘Domains’ in the WebDirect ‘Settings’ tab. In the ‘More domains’ section, hover over the domain you would like to set as primary, then click on the ‘Make primary domain’ button. Be sure you save your changes by clicking on the ‘Save’ button in the lower right side of the page.
NOTE: You can only set your domain as primary if you made the necessary changes with your domain provider. If this has not been done, you will receive the error message: ‘This domain is not ready to be set as your primary. DNS records could take up to 4 hours to update – please try again later’.
