This guide will walk you through connecting your domain from a Google Domain account to your WebDirect site.
Step 1 - Add your domain to WebDirect
To connect your domain to your website you need to add the specific domain name to your WebDirect account. The domain configurations can be managed on your “Domains” page in the settings of WebDirect. In case you need help logging into your WebDirect account please refer to this article.
Step 2 - Log in to your Google Domain Account
Go to the GoogleDomain site via https://domains.google and log in to your account. You can find the log in button at the top right of the screen.
Step 3 - Set up CNAME
Set up your CNAME record by clicking on the DNS button in the column “DNS”.
In the next screen, look for the section “Custom resource records” and select CNAME in the drop-down as shown below.
Add ‘suite-sites.booking.com’ in the field ‘Domain name’ along with “www” in the field on the left-hand side which is labeled with “@”. The value “1H” in the middle field should not be changed. The entries should look like the screenshot below. Make sure you add the entry by clicking “Add”.
Once the item is added, it should appear as follows:
Step 4 - Set up domain forwarding
Next, we create a forward from “www” to your domain, so your site can be reached via www.yourdomain.com and not only via yourdomain.com.
In the main screen look for the section “Synthetic records”. Select the “Subdomain forward” in the dropdown and include “@” in the left field. In the right field include your full domain. Make sure that “Permanent redirect (301) and “Do not forward path” are selected. Your settings should look like this:
Step 5 - Setting your primary domain
As a last step you need to set your domain name as primary. If you have multiple domains added to your account, you need to set one of your domain names as primary. Your other domains will then automatically be redirected to your primary domain. Visitors who access your site, will then always see the primary domain in their browser bar.
In order to set your primary domain navigate to the “Domains page” in the WebDirect setting. In the “More Domains” section hover over the domain you would like to set as primary and click on the button “Make primary domain”. Make sure you save your changes by clicking on the “save” button on the lower right side of the page.
Hint: You can only set your domain as primary, if you made the necessary changes with your domain provider. If this hasn’t been done you will receive the error message: “This domain isn't ready to be set as your primary. DNS records could take up to 4 hours to update – please try again later.”
