This guide will walk you through connecting your domain from a GoDaddy account to your WebDirect site.
Step 1 - Add your domain to WebDirect
To connect your domain to your website you need to add the specific domain name to your WebDirect account. The domain configurations can be managed on your “Domains” page in the settings of WebDirect. In case you need help logging into your WebDirect account please refer to this article.
Once you are on the “Domains’’ section in WebDirect, navigate to the section called “More domains”. Enter your domain www.yourdomain.com (make sure to incl. “www”) and click “Add”. Your domain should now be listed above. Make sure you save your changes by clicking on “save” on the lower right side.
Step 2 - Log in to your GoDaddy account
Visit godaddy.com and log in via the “Sign In” button at the top right of the screen.
This will open a menu with another “Sign In” button on which you have to click.
In the next window insert your username and password.
Step 3- Set up your CNAME
Once you are logged in you should see the ‘My Products’ view. Click on the “DNS” button to the right of the domain you would like to connect. If you have only purchased one domain, the list will only show a single domain.
In the next screen you will see a list of DNS “Records”. In order to change your CNAME, look for ‘CNAME’ in the Type column and ‘www’ in the Name column. Click the edit button to the right-hand side (see screenshot).
Once you click edit, you will see a pop-up with details of your CNAME (see screenshot below). Insert ‘suite-sites.booking.com’ in the ‘Points To’ field and ensure that ‘www’ is displayed in the Host field. The TTL should not be changed – it should still display ‘1 Hour’. Once you have completed these steps, click save.
Step 4 - Set up domain forwarding
Next, we will create a forward from ‘www’ to your domain, so your site can be reachable via www.yourdomain.com. You should still be viewing the “Records” section in which you have to locate the option ‘Forwarding’ now. You can find this section at the very bottom of the screen as shown in the screenshot below.
Once you click on “ADD” a windows will open up. In the following pop-up windows (see screenshot below) you can add your full domain name (www.exampledomain.com) in the field next to ‘http://’. Select the forward type as ‘Permanent 301’. Only the ‘Forward only’ option should be selected for settings, then press save.
Step 5 -Setting your primary domain
As a last step you need to set your domain name as primary. If you have multiple domains added to your account, you need to set one of your domain names as primary. Your other domains will then automatically be redirected to your primary domain. Visitors who access your site, will then always see the primary domain in their browser bar.
In order to set your primary domain navigate to the “Domains page” in the WebDirect setting. In the “More Domains” section hover over the domain you would like to set as primary and click on the button “Make primary domain”. Make sure you save your changes by clicking on the “save” button on the lower right side of the page.
Hint: You can only set your domain as primary, if you made the necessary changes with your domain provider. If this hasn’t been done you will receive the error message: “This domain isn't ready to be set as your primary. DNS records could take up to 4 hours to update – please try again later.”
