CPanel is a common configuration system used by many web hosting and domain providers. This guide will walk you through how to connect your domain with CPanel to your WebDirect site.
Step 1 - Add domain to WebDirect
To connect your domain to your website you need to add the specific domain name to your WebDirect account. The domain configurations can be managed on your “Domains” page in the settings of WebDirect. In case you need help logging into your WebDirect account please refer to this article.
Once you are on the “Domains’’ section in WebDirect, navigate to the section called “More domains”. Enter your domain www.yourdomain.com (make sure to incl. “www”) and click “Add”. Your domain should now be listed above. Make sure you save your changes by clicking on “save” on the lower right side.
Step 2 - Log in to your Cpanel
To log in the CPanel administration platform, you can access it via a directory linked to your domain. It should be accessible via one of the following links:
Make sure you replace “yourdomain” with your actual domain.
Step 3 - Set up CNAME
In order to change your CNAME go to the ‘’Advanced Zone Editor’’ (see screenshot). If this option is not available, you will need to contact the support of your domain provider and request to enable it.
When you have entered the ‘’Advanced Zone Editor’’ you will see a list of records in the “Zone File Records” section. Look for the column which includes “CNAME” and click on the “Edit” link .
Add ‘suite-sites.booking.com’ in the CNAME field. The value TTL should not be changed from the value “14400”. To save, click the “Edit Record” button.
Step 4 - Set up domain forwarding
Go back to the initial home menu and select “Redirects’’ from the menu “Domains”.
In the section ‘’Add Redirect’’ you need to select and fill out the following fields:
- Type: Select Permanent ( 301)
- https?://(www.)?: Choose your domain from the drop down menu
- / : Stays empty
- Redirects to: Enter the full URL of your domain example http://www.exampledomain.com
- Select the option “Redirect with or without www”
- Select “Wild Card Redirect”
The configuration should look as follows:
Make sure you save the changes by clicking “Add”. When the Redirect is successfully added you will be able to see it in the ‘’Current Redirects’’ section (see screenshot below).
Step 5 - Setting your primary domain
As a last step you need to set your domain name as primary. If you have multiple domains added to your account, you need to set one of your domain names as primary. Your other domains will then automatically be redirected to your primary domain. Visitors who access your site, will then always see the primary domain in their browser bar.
In order to set your primary domain navigate to the “Domains page” in the WebDirect setting. In the “More Domains” section hover over the domain you would like to set as primary and click on the button “Make primary domain”. Make sure you save your changes by clicking on the “save” button on the lower right side of the page.
Hint: You can only set your domain as primary, if you made the necessary changes with your domain provider. If this hasn’t been done you will receive the error message: “This domain isn't ready to be set as your primary. DNS records could take up to 4 hours to update – please try again later.”
