How to boost your website’s visibility

1. Custom domain

Registering a personalised domain name will help you generate the best online presence for your brand.

For example, a custom domain including your property name can easily be found by potential guests. Without it, guests can simply not find your website and so they can’t use it to make a booking. Ideally, your personalised domain should be short and easy to remember. This not only helps to boost your bookings on your WebDirect site, but it also supports positioning your brand online. WebDirect websites with a custom domain have been proven to receive not just more website traffic, but also more reservations. This is caused by the increased ranking on search engines such as Google.

Have you already added a custom domain to your WebDirect website? You can follow this guide to complete the process.

2. Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a free service offered by Google that helps site owners monitor and maintain their site's presence in Google search results. You don’t have to to sign up for Search Console to have your site included in Google's search results. However, doing so can help you understand how Google views the site, and then optimise its performance in search results.

If you want to connect to Search Console right now, you can find the instructions here

3. Google My Business

Google My Business is a free tool for businesses to manage their online presence across Google, including search and Google Maps. To boost traffic to your website, it’s important to ensure that your property has a profile in Google My Business with your official domain listed.

If you don’t already have a profile, we recommend that you read through the additional information here.

4. Social media

We recommend creating and updating your business profile on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to improve your brand visibility. Remember to list your official website on those channels and to list your social media accounts on your website.

Do you want to know how to insert social media links on your WebDirect? You can find more information here.

5. SEO settings

Meta descriptions are tags that will allow search engines to understand what your website is about. The description is usually a small paragraph of one or two sentences, including keywords which your customers would search for. Those can also be shown in search engine listings below your page title. Make sure you keep your titles relevant and include useful keywords, to make the most out of SEO.

6. Beautiful and updated pictures

Make sure you have high-quality photos on your property, as these are key in a guest’s decision  on where to stay next. If possible, use a professional photographer to support you in getting the right photos to attract guests.

You can find some expert tips about photography on your WebDirect pages here

7. Personalise your content

Your homepage and room descriptions are created automatically by our system. However, we strongly encourage you to personalise your existing content to describe your property's identity in the best possible way. In addition, we recommend creating new relevant content sections, such as gastronomy, surroundings, activities, history, events, etc. Don’t borrow content from elsewhere, though, as that will affect your Google ranking. Instead, write your own descriptions and put your own personality into it.

If you haven’t already personalised your description, have a look at this article to see some tips. To create new content, you’ll first need to add a new page. A step-by-step guide on how to add a new section can be found here

8. Brand identity

WebDirect enables you to promote your accommodation, which you should do with the help of a consistent brand representation. Displaying a coherent brand online improves your recognition in the market. For example, make sure you are using the same logo and colours across different channels and sticking to the same theme. WebDirect allows you to select the theme that fits you and your accommodation best. You can add your own logo, play with the colour settings and upload different background images.

We recommend reading through our instructions on changing the different elements. You can find them here

9. USPs (Unique Selling Points)

Why would a guest book through your WebDirect site instead of using an OTA such as Booking.com? And what do you do better than other properties around you? Those questions are most likely easy to answer for you, but you need to make sure it’s clear to your guests as well.

We recommend thinking of your unique selling points and including them on your WebDirect website. Are you located right by the beach? Do you offer the best breakfast in town? Or do you offer special treatments to guests like free meals or a room upgrade? Let your website visitors know!

Make sure you reinforce your USPs (unique selling points) in your meta description and, if possible, in your homepage as well. This will help get more visitors to your site.
